we spent each other. in half pennies and broken toothpicks. the equation shuddered. as we worked the math. fumbling with numbers when they were the last thing that mattered.

we spun. on those decaying bricks. arguing with the maps. as the places got away from us. the treble rose and we gave up the dance.

tomorrow lingered. yesterday whispered. we strangled on the sun. our bodies all burnt matchsticks. as we struggled to remember the epiphany of touch.

yearning built the bridge.courage dared us to cross it. we climb. but the ladders bend. we fly. but our bones betray us.

we see, though the distance distorts.

we pretend to see. but we're blind. from start to finish.
