so well were we outraged. pouting corpses chewing on the last remaining crusts of bread.

telling time by our bitten lips.

so quietly the monster slumbered. in the delicate nightmares that dared our trust.

the world ended quite abruptly. with neither a bang nor a whimper.

only a casual transaction.

between passing strangers.

how was only a caution. from thieves in scattered prisons.

wearing the future in turned out pockets.

a penny drops. deep into the well.

a distance spent too easily on tumbling martyrs.

we say the words. in shallow cuts.

counting out loud.

while the truth forgets.
